Jackie Norris is an American political aide, educator, corporate strategist and non-profit leader. She is the President and CEO of Goodwill of Central Iowa. She once served as the Assistant to President Obama and Chief of Staff to First Lady Michelle Obama.
Norris was born in NY and earned a degree in political science from SUNY Geneseo in 1992. She received her teaching certification in 2001 and a Masters in Political Science from Iowa State University in 2008.
Norris began her career in the office of Congresswoman Slaughter in 1992. She later served as Vice President Al Gore’s scheduler and as Director of Scheduling for HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo. In 1998, Norris served as finance director for Tom Vilsack’s gubernatorial campaign in Iowa and as Iowa political director on Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign.
In 2002, Norris became a high school history and government teacher first in Perry, then Ames and finally Johnston. She is the 2005 award recipient of the James Madison Fellowship, which is awarded to teachers of the US Constitution at the secondary level. Jackie has served as an adjunct professor at American University in Washington, DC and John Cabot University in Rome, Italy.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Norris was Barack Obama's State Director after being his Senior Advisor during the caucus campaign. Norris served as First Lady Michelle Obama's White House Chief of Staff.
Norris later served as Senior Advisor to the CEO at the Corporation for National and Community Service, to advance the Administration’s work on volunteer service. Norris continued her efforts to encourage more people to serve – this time focusing on engaging corporate employees and served as the founding Executive Director of the Points of Light Corporate Institute.
After a two year hiatus in Italy, where she was a professor of American Government while her husband, John, represented the US on agricultural policy at the UN Agencies, Team Norris returned home to Iowa.
